violations. From 2010 to 2016, those accused of security crimes or those
detained under the special laws in the southern border provinces of
Thailand were most worried about their safety after release. Information
was obtained from the Duay Jai group that had compiled a list of former
security suspects. At least 20 of the former detained under the special
laws and their families were shot, injured, or killed from 2010 to 2016,
or the average of 4 per year. Increased suspicion and decreased
confidence in the country's justice system has been caused by the
assassination of former inmates with no identified perpetrator, with
most cases happening in the south. .
