The guidelines to prevent and correct the causes or reduce risks
for social crises caused by environmental injustices include the following.
(1) Create discussion platforms for those affected to participate
in decision-making from the beginning.
All sectors must participate in decision-making from the outset to
facilitate the joint determination of development guidelines consistent
with the local context. This also helps create equitable development
because every sector within each development area has already expressed
their opinions and reflected their views on the direction of development.
Additionally, listening to all sectors for decision-making may lead to
equitable distribution of resources.
(2) Separate conflicting parties and use mediators to manage issues.
When a problem leads to a crisis, separating the conflicting parties
and using a mediator to help negotiate and ease the situation can relieve
the tension. Each sector involved may have to reduce its own demands
in order to share resources.
(3) Reveal the truth to the public openly and honestly.
The risk of entering a crisis is caused by making people feel like
there is no way out. When news about a case is spread throughout
society via various unbiased sources, it can help mitigate the risk of crisis
escalation.
