addressing economic inequality is to empower the parliament to amend
laws in ways consistent with fair competition in trade and the economy.
Alternatively, a special commission may be established to address law
enforcement issues or related mechanisms to promote fair competition
and propose amendments with the involvement of political parties.
To break down monopoly capital and enhance entrepreneurial potential
in the retail sector, amendments to the Trade Competition Act should be
pursued. Additionally, the utilization of fiscal measures to distribute wealth
are crucial for furthering the development of the country's economy.
Issue 3: Environmental Injustice in Two Case Studies
1) Pak Mun Dam, Ubon Ratchathani Province; and 2) Bang Kloi
Villagers, Kanchanaburi Province.
The villagers in the area of Pak Mun Dam, Ubon Ratchathani
Province, demanded fairness from the state due to economic inequality.
Pak Mun villagers lived on fishing in the Mun River Basin and they were
doing well. After the dam project took place, however, villagers no longer
had their stable source of income. Some went from fishing to work
for a living in unfamiliar fields causing demonstrations to demand
compensation from the government.
