This study of social crisis in Thailand aims to develop guidelines to
prevent crises in all dimensions. By searching for the real causes of crisis
and relevant risk factors, measures and guidelines will be developed more
systematically. The results for each of the four key issues are as follow.
Issue 1: Inequality in the Justice Process in Three
Case Studies
1) Krue Se-Tak Bai in the southern border provinces of Thailand;
2) the prosecution of political protesters; and 3) gaps in the justice
process concerning criminal investigations.
The case in the southern border provinces of Thailand is
the most at risk for violence. One of the factors is the belief that the
work of the government sector in the justice process is not truly fair.
Previous events have produced a social context in which there is no trust
in the justice system. There is a difference in first language between local
people and government officials in the area controlled by Thailand’s
special laws for national security. The important suggestion is that
“the state must review the security law in the area and the process of
enforcing the security law to be consistent with actual needs in the area”.
