The Temple was built by King Rama I's grandfather and was therefore regarded a Chakri family
temple. King Prajadhipok ordered necessary repairs and a court artist, Phraya Anusasana
Jitragon, to paint the inner wall. This section was painted above the front entrance of the Vihara,
depicting the life of King Naresuan the Great who fought to liberty the Thais from Burmese rule.
The construction of a new Ubosoth was completed in the reign of King Rama VIII.

King Prajadhipok did not construct a special temple of his own but took on himself to see that Wat
Rajabopitr, RamaV's temple, was always in good repair.
The royal ashes of King Prajadhipok and Queen Rambhai Barni were therefore placed under an
important Buddha image in this temple.
