A national economic plan proposed by Luang Pradit Manudham brought about conflict in the
National Assembly. A Communist Act was passed in 1933 with the result that Luang Pradit left
Siam for a brief stay in Paris.
The situation became tense and another Coup by the military under Phraya Pahol followed on 20
June 1933. Phraya Mano was ousted and replaced by Phraya Pahol. Luang Pradit returned and
was appointed Minister in the new cabinet on 1 October 1933.

The return of Luang Pradit and his subsequent appointment in the cabinet caused disatis-
factions among various sections. It was feared that the government's policy was to introduce
communism into Siam. Also as a charge of criminal offence was allowed to be brought against
the King, the government was criticized for being negligent in their duty to uphold the monarchy.
This led to an insurrection of civilian and military personels on 11 October 1933.

Their Majesties 'residence in Surrey, England. After the eye treatment, the King remained
in England at his residence in Surrey. On 2 March 1935, he signed his abdication statement,
part of which stated .
..... 1 am whole heartedly willing to relinquish the powers vested in me from timespast to
the people in general. However, I will not relinquish them to anyone person or group so that it
may be used absolutely without listening to the real voices of the people.
I now believe that my wish to see my people truly exercising their right in determining
their own government policy has failed. And as I feel no longer in a position to assist or protect
my people, I wish to abdicate the throne as from now ... ..
