Bangkok had been the capital of the Kingdom for 150 years in 1932. To commemorate the
occasion, the city joyously celebrated, the monarchy was blessed and religious ceremonies were
held. Graditude to its founder was expressed through the erection of his statue and the con-
struction of the Memorial Bridge linking Bangkok and Dhonburi.
This photograph was taken in Canada before proceeding to U.S.A.

After his trip to U.S.A., the King assigned the task of drafting the constitution to Phraya Srivi-
sarnvaja, Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. R.B. Stevens, Advisor to the
foreign Office. The draft entitled "An Outline of Changes in the Forms of Government"
was completed on 9 March 1932. The King's wish had not yet been realized when a Coup d'Etat
broke out on 24 June 1932.
