(2) Roles of Other Sectors
All sectors should cooperate in fact checking and resolving doubts
in society, such as the Cofact (Collaborative Fact Checking) project,
Sure Before Sharing Center of the Thai News Agency, the Safe and Creative
Media Fund, and the international First Draft Partner Network.
Self-Regulated Platforms
Social media has its own measures to deal with false information
and disinformation, such as platform operators removing misinformation
from the platform, reducing the visibility of user accounts that repeatedly
spread misinformation in order to prevent them from generating income,
and placing warnings on stirring content. Such voluntary controls and
rules practiced on self-regulated platforms do not involve any state legal
measures.
Conclusion and Recommendations
(1) Enforcing the law against stirring information and respecting rights
and liberty regarding access to information are crucial. When information
is dispersed with the intent to distort facts, cause misunderstandings, and
potentially affect individuals, organizations, and the nation, it is necessary
to enforce the law and prosecute offenders. However, punishing
perpetrators of fake or distorted news must not infringe upon the rights
