Executive Summary

This work presents the results of a qualitative research study undertaken with the

following objectives.

1) To study the change in political power, party switching, and factors that influence political
decision-making, as well as to analyze the election outcome that happen in Sakeaw Province.

2) To study the behavior of how parties spend their funds on their campaigns.

3) To study the influence, relationships, and roles of non-governmental organizations as

stakeholders in the election and political movements.

4) To study the environmental factors that influence people’s political behavior and political
groups, by means of data gathered through in-depth interviews with informants by purposive

sampling and divided into four groups:

4.1) candidates;

4.2) non-governmental organizations, which are the stakeholders in election groups;

4.3) representatives from political institutions (civil service and the security affairs
section);

4.4) people.
