people
3.1 Election results. 1) In the party-list system, 77.25 percent of eligible voters
cast ballots, 94.48 percent of ballots cast were valid, 4.79 percent were invalid, and
0.83 percent of ballots were cast for the “no vote” option (rejecting all candidates).
2) The Chart Thai Pattana Party candidates won in every constituency. Specifically,
Mr. Sorachat Suchit won in Constituency 1, Mr. Natthawut Prasertsuwan won in
Constituency 2, Mr. Praphat Phothisuthon took Constituency 3, and Mr. Samerkan
Thiangtham won in Constituency 4.
3.2 Questionnaire respondents. 1) The majority of respondents were female;
the largest group comprised those who were 36–45 years old, with upper secondary
level education, with occupation of working for hire, and with monthly income of 5,001–
10,000 baht. 2) Regarding election behaviors, the overall rating mean of questionnaire
respondents’ election behaviors was at the moderate level: following information
concerning the election via electronic media channels like the Internet, Facebook, Twitter,
and Instagram; following information concerning the election enables them to exercise
their right to vote; the reason that they are not interested in following information
concerning the election is that the information is unreliable; the reason that they go to
cast their votes is that it is specified in the law; the persons who have influence on their
decision to go vote are the community leaders; the decision to vote is based on the
policy of the political parties; the factor causing respondents to support a political party
is appreciation of and satisfaction with the leader/core leaders of the political party.
On the other hand, the specific item receiving the low rating mean was that on giving
out money for vote buying, while the specific item receiving the lowest rating mean was
that on being a member of a political party. 3) The people were interested in exercising
their right to vote because the country had been without an election for a long time, and
respondents wanted to see many changes in the country, especially economic change.
The factors that enabled the candidates to be elected were the following: their popularity
among the people; their provision of help/advice to the people; and the popularity of
Mr. Banharn Silpa-acha. On the other hand, the factor that prevented other candidates
was vote buying. Moreover, it was found that invalid ballots were caused by the ballots
being sent to the wrong constituency, and voters marked the ballots incorrectly.
