The Executive Summary
This research report, entitled “Political Activities and Electoral Behavior in the
2019 Thailand General Election in Suphan Buri Province” aimed to study 1) the political
climate and political activities of election-related organizations and political groups;
2) the political activities and behaviors of candidates; 3) the roles of government agencies
and other organizations related to the election; and 4) political behaviors and patterns
of political behaviors of people involved in the election.
This is a mixed-method study using quantitative and qualitative research
methodologies. For the qualitative study, the key research informants were 22 persons
comprising the candidates, the director of the provincial election of Suphan Buri, election
unit board members, local politicians, sub-district heads, village heads, businessmen,
experts, community leaders, election monitoring organization members, and eligible
voters. In the quantitative study, the research sample consisted of 402 people from
all election zones. Data were collected with the use of a questionnaire, interviews, and
observation. Qualitative data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, while quantitative
data were statistically analyzed using percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
Research findings are as follow.
1. The roles of state agencies and other organizations
1.1 The roles at the provincial level are as follow. 1) The inspector-general of
Suphan Buri Province had little role in the election. 2) The director of the provincial
election of Suphan Buri performed his roles in planning and carrying out the election
