Abstract
A Study of Political Activities and Electoral Behaviors in the 2019 Thailand General
Election in Suphan Buri Province aimed to study 1) the political climate and political activities
of election-related organizations and political groups; 2) the political activities and behaviors
of candidates; 3) the roles of government agencies and other organizations related to
the election; and 4) political behaviors and patterns of political behaviors of people involved
in the election.
The research used qualitative and quantitative methods by conducting structured
interviews with key informants. Questionnaires and observation were used with sample groups.
The data were analyzed by using percentage, average, standard deviation, and descriptive
analysis.
The results revealed the following.
1. The role of government agencies and other organizations. At the provincial level,
the inspector-general of Suphan Buri Province played little role in this election. The director
of the provincial election of Suphan Buri planned and implemented the election process.
The province was divided into four constituencies. Candidate application was arranged on
February 4-8th, 2020 from 08.30- 16.30 hrs. Pre-election activities took place at the auditoriums
of government agencies, schools, and public halls in the four constituencies. There were
112 candidacy applicants from 32 parties, but some would-be candidates did not meet
qualifications for candidacy. Campaigns were arranged. The budget was appropriate, but rules
were not clear. Election processes at polling places and around constituencies were able to be
