according to Conflict Dimension as follows. The political conflict dimension is a conflict that has
arisen from the discord to the loss of properties and life. The conflict is caused by political
conflicts possibly comprising the disagreement with different political ideas, political
polarization, and other politically related conflicts. The examples of political conflicts in Thailand
are at various levels such as expressions through debates in a democratic parliamentary system,
dissent between different political groups outside the Parliament leading to political rallies
escalated into a disturbance, the use of repressive measures by the government and political
violence. The economic conflict dimension is a conflict that arises as economic inequality at the
community level, regional level, and national level. The violent conflicts result in the economic
hardship, loss of properties and life. The conflicts are mainly caused by economy. The examples
of economic conflicts in Thailand are at various levels such as people protesting from economic
troubles, the villagers protesting over rubber prices, sugar cane prices, palm prices, etc. The
conflict dimension of environment and natural resources is a conflict that arises mainly from
natural resources, especially the cause of inequality in natural resources and the conflicts caused
by natural disasters such as flood disaster, windstorm disaster, etc. The aforementioned conflicts
result in the misunderstandings among stakeholders leading to the loss of properties and life.
The conflicts are mainly caused by natural resources. The examples of natural resource conflict
dimension that occur in Thailand include the issue of protests over the Mae Wong Dam, the
protest over coal-fired power plant in the case of Chana new industrial city. And the conflict
dimension of ethnics, languages, religions, and culture is a conflict mainly arising from ethnics,
religions, and culture. The conflict in this dimension mainly affects the issue of “identity”
because of the violation of cultural rights. There are the discrimination and injustice causing
resentment to the local people. Even those who maintain their identity, they want freedom and
liberty so that they can maintain their identity.
The research project on the conflict mapping on the conflict issues in Thailand: Case
study of dimension of environment and natural resources (Southern and Northeastern Regions)
Phase 4 focuses on environmental issues, especially issues related to natural resources, land
resources, forest resources, water resources, marine and coastal resources. The environmental
issues are related to dust, toxic fumes, and weather conditions targeting only 2 regions; the
northern region and the central region in 2 case studies: PM2.5 Dust Project in Chiang Rai and
Chiang Mai and Eastern Economic Corridor : EEC project in Chonburi.
An important question that needs to be answered in this phase 4 research is how much
the study of conflict dimension of environment and natural resources caused by or resulted
from the implementation of various development projects following the government policies
affect natural resources and the environment, how each area with difference in its context has
