Thai Democracy on the Move

Abstract

This research paper is from a research titled “Cyber Democracy” which aims to
study both strengths and limitations of social media or cyber democracy on democracy by

analyzing the controversies that exist today if internet media can promote or reduce the quality
of democracy. The research finds that there are many factors that affect the quality of cyber

democracy and the people’s participation on digital and social media depends on the decline
of democracy in the world and Thailand. The research finds that although internet creates

conflicts between extreme part of societies, in many cases, internet and social media helps
create channel of communication and understanding between policy makers and its citizen.

This research suggests that cyber democracy that will establish a qualified

democracy should depend on these four dimensions; more participation of people through
internet; development in rights and freedom of citizen; stabilization for internet system as well

as the creation of learning society.
