The inspection process
- The day before an inspection, a consultative meeting should be organized with the inspection
team to prepare for the inspection.
- After an inspection a meeting should be organized to summarize the result from the inspection,
draft a report, and prepare for further presentation to the executive.
The meeting should be attended by every member in the inspection team, including the inspector
general of the Prime Minister’s Office, ministerial inspectors general, departmental inspectors general,
civil advisors, assistants to inspectors general, and relevant staff members.
Reporting the result of inspection
- A handbook for writing inspection reports should be created to foster better inspection report
quality.
- A template for doing inspection reports should be created to ensure that reports show results and
outcomes from inspected projects.
- The inspection team should be allowed to present the results of inspection directly to the
executive.
Support
Focus on creating new tools to increase trust from relevant sectors regarding the quality of
inspection and the potential to realize the goals of inspection.
- There should be a quality standard for inspection and evaluation.
- An inspection manual and report template should be created.
- Guidance should be provided on core competencies of people in the inspection system. There
should be a staff development plan, guidelines on core competencies, and guidance on how personnel can
develop these core competencies in themselves.
