ความท้าทายของความมั่นคงใหม่กับประชาธิปไตย

การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกของอดีตกองกำลังแนวร่วมปฏิวัติแห่งชาติมลายูปาตานี หรือ BRN โดยใช้
เทคนิคการวิจัยแบบศึกษาประวัติชีวิต (Life History) ผลการศึกษาพบว่าการยุติการใช้ความ
รุนแรงของอดีตนักรบพบว่าในกระบวนการแปรเปลี่ยนความขัดแย้งจาก
การใช้ความรุนแรงสู่การไม่ใช้ความรุนแรงจำเป็นต้องมองทั้งในระดับบุคคลและ

ความสัมพันธ์เชิงวัฒนธรรมและเชิงโครงสร้าง ทั้งนี้ มีข้อท้าทายหลายประการที่ทำให้
การแปรเปลี่ยนในเชิงโครงสร้างไม่สามารถก้าวไปได้มากนัก โดยเฉพาะแนวทางที่ไม่ชัดเจนของ
รัฐบาลไทยที่มีต่อกระบวนการพูดคุยและแนวทางการจัดการความขัดแย้งในพื้นที่ยังคงมุ่งเน้น

แนวทางทางการทหารเป็นหลัก รวมถึงความไม่เป็นเอกภาพของกลุ่มขบวนการต่อสู้หลายๆ
กลุ่ม นอกจากนี้การแปรเปลี่ยนมาต่อสู้ในพื้นที่ทางการเมืองของอดีตนักรบในระบบ
ประชาธิปไตยของประเทศไทยในปัจจุบันก็ต้องเผชิญกับข้อท้าทายหลากหลายประการทั้งพื้นที่
การเมืองในระดับท้องถิ่นตลอดจนการเมืองในระดับชาติ

Abstract

This article is a part of the research project on “Transforming from Violence
to Political Means for the Insurgents in the Deep South of Thailand” funded by the
National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). The study aims to analyze how
former members of the Patani Melayu National Revolutionary Front (BRN) changed
from using violence to political tactics and the difficulties they faced after being
involved in Thai politics and elections. In this qualitative research, the life history
research method was used to interview and evaluate data from relevant articles.
The result found that transforming from violence to non-violence of the insurgent
groups should be focused on individuals and ties between cultural and social
structures. There are many factors preventing the transformation of structures,
especially the Thai government’s ambivalence towards peace talks, which mainly
handles the conflict in the Deep South region by military means. The insurgents,
on the other hand, lack cohesion, and former separatist have had a difficult time
fighting for political positions at the local and national levels as Thailand is now
