No.5 Nonthawat Nonthapak—He is very close to Mr. Wittaya Kaewparadai, former
Minister of Public Health and former Member of the House of Representative from
Democrat Party.
And No. 7 Mr. Pichai Boonyakiat—He was the former Chief Executive of the PAO.
He is the brother of Mr. Chinnaworn Boonyakiat, former Minister of Education and former
Member of the House of Representative from Democrat Party.
For No. 6 and 8, they were the independent candidates.
3. Political behaviors of the candidates for Chief Executive of the PAO and
Members of the PAO Council: It found that from the period of election campaign to
the election day, the candidates of Chief Executive of the PAO and Members of the PAO
Council campaigned for voting under the ways, methods and budget in accordance with
the law except the part related to the canvassers. The research revealed that the
candidates used lots of canvassers who live in the election areas but they did not reveal
the names or faces of these canvassers to the Election Commission of Thailand or the
general public. For the styles of election campaign used in the election of Chief
Executive of the PAO and Members of the PAO Council, the candidates used more types
of social media as the new channel to campaign for voting instead of using old media
because the social media could reach the voters quickly with low expenses.
4. Voters’ behaviors and factors affecting voting decision making: It found
that for the environment before the election, people from all age levels who had right
in voting had political attentiveness and were very interested in this election. They
showed this attentiveness on both online and offline. They talked and exchanged
information about the election of Chief Executive of the PAO and Members of the PAO
Council in all societies. Two big debates were organized to give opportunity to the
candidates for introducing themselves and their policies. There were many activities to
campaign for voting by persuading voters to vote for this election. We could see this
political attentiveness from the number of voters which was 769,687 or 64.09%.
Meanwhile, the number of voters from all over the country was just 46,610,759 or
62.25%, less than the number of voters in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Important factors
affecting voting decision making in this election were as follows: 1. Persons and political
legacies 2. Policies presented by the candidates 3. Being under the national political
parties, local political groups and the connection between the candidates and political
groups in the national level 4. Campaign styles and 5. Vote buying
