The relationship between Siam and Japan were continuously
through trades. Most of Siam’s exports were forest products such as
deer skins, stingray skins, Sappan wood, various types of aromatic wood.
The goods imported from Japan were swords, ammunition, gunpowder,
wares, copper products and tea, etc. When the trades between the
two countries flourished, many Japanese villages appeared in Siam.
The relationship between the two kingdoms was expanded into the military
and political area as seen through the appointment of Ambassador of
Japan to Siam according to the Siamese law on “Japanese Volunteer
Department” in 1466 A.D., or during the reign of King Borom Trai Lokanat.
In diplomacy, there were many records confirming that Ayutthaya Kingdom
sent many ambassadors to Japan. In the reign of King Naresuan the Great,
in 1603 A.D., and the reign of King Songtham, there were details of the
ceremony when the Siamese ambassadors met Shoguns in 1621 A.D.
