Melayu Muslim Politicians in the Deep South of
Thailand: General substance, opportunities and
challenges

บทคัดย่อ
ในช่วง 15 ปีที่ผ่านมา จังหวัดชายแดนใต้ตกอยู่ในห้วงของความรุนแรงที่แม้จะดูเหมือนว่า
มีแนวโน้มจะเกิดเหตุการณ์ความรุนแรงลดลง แต่ปัญหาของความรุนแรงก็ยังคงมีอย่างต่อเนื่อง
มีข้อเสนอแนะและความพยายามต่างๆ มากมายจากหลากหลายฝ่ายในสังคมที่ร่วมกันนำเสนอ
เพื่อต้องการที่จะให้เกิดสันติภาพในพื้นที่ ขณะเดียวกันก็มีงานศึกษาจำนวนมากที่เกิดจากความ
สนใจในการที่จะศึกษาประเด็นต่างๆ นับตั้งแต่เกิดเหตุการณ์ความไม่สงบเป็นต้นมา งานศึกษา
เหล่านี้ล้วนสร้างสรรค์ให้เกิดความเข้าใจต่อพื้นที่ในมุมมองที่หลากหลายมากยิ่งขึ้น อย่างไรก็ตาม
หากพิจารณาในมิติทางการเมืองแล้ว การศึกษากลุ่มที่ขึ้นชื่อว่ามีบทบาทที่สำคัญไม่น้อยในสังคม
นับตั้งแต่ก่อนเกิดเหตุการณ์จนเข้าสู่ช่วงเหตุการณ์ที่คนกลุ่มนี้ก็ยังคงมุ่งเน้นที่จะใช้พื้นที่ทาง
การเมือง นั่นก็คือ นักการเมืองระดับชาติที่เป็นมลายูมุสลิมในจังหวัดชายแดนใต้ ซึ่งเป็น
กลุ่มศึกษาหลักที่งานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพเรื่อง “พลวัตการเคลื่อนไหวของนักการเมืองมลายูมุสลิม
ท่ามกลางความรุนแรงในพื้นที่ชายแดนใต้” ซึ่งได้รับการสนับสนุนโดยสำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุน
การวิจัยได้ศึกษาไว้แล้ว ซึ่งมีคำถามวิจัยของงานชิ้นนี้ต้องการมุ่งเน้นถึงการมองบนฐานข้อมูล
ที่ปรากฏให้เห็นถึงการปรับตัวอย่างเห็นได้ชัดของนักการเมืองมลายูมุสลิมในช่วงหลังจากเกิด

เหตุการณ์ความไม่สงบเป็นต้นมา ตลอดจนคำถามที่ว่าการต่อสู้ทางการเมืองในระบอบรัฐสภา
ยังคงมีความหวังในการเป็นทางเลือกหนึ่งในการต่อรองทางการเมืองหรือการเรียกร้องสิทธิของ
ชาวมลายูมุสลิมในพื้นที่ชายแดนใต้ได้อีกหรือไม่ บทความชิ้นนี้นับว่าเป็นส่วนหนึ่งจากภาพรวม
ของการขับเคลื่อนของนักการเมืองมลายูมุสลิมที่ได้ระบุไว้ในงานวิจัยชิ้นที่กล่าวถึงข้างต้น โดยจะ
มุ่งเน้นไปที่ตัวตน โอกาสและข้อท้าทายของความเป็นนักการเมืองมลายูมุสลิม

Abstract
During last 15 years, the Deep South region of Thailand has been under the
cycle of violence which seems to have decreasing number of the violent situation
though it is still one of the ongoing conflicts. There were several recommendations
and lots of attempts from various sectors in the society to suggest the ideas for
peace in the area. Many studies had been done since the beginning of the
uncertainty in the region. Most of the study has filled the gap to understand this area
in different aspects. However, in political scope, the studies which focused to one of
the significant groups which always uses the political means to mobilize the society
national Melayu Muslim politicians from the Deep South. This group is the key
informants for the research project on “The Dynamics of Melayu Muslim Politicians’
Movements amidst the Violence in the Southern Border Provinces” supported by
Thailand Research Fund. The research questions of this study underlined on the
adaptation of Melayu Muslim politicians after the violence on the area started; as well
as, the question of the possibility of political mobilization under the parliament system
to be the alternative ways for supporting political negotiation and for regaining basic
rights of Melayu Muslim. This article is a part of the whole picture of the Melayu
Muslim politicians’ mobilization mentioned in the research which will focus on the
general substance, opportunities and challenges to be Melayu Muslim politicians in the
Deep South of Thailand.
