question evaluates a different aspect of social media literacy skills, for example, reasonable
argumentation and respect for different opinions, information analysis and interpretation, creative
production aimed at avoiding national conflict and social division, using peaceful language by
avoiding aggressive, rude, and provocative words and so on. Concerning social media literacy of
youths for citizenship in a democratic society test, educational institutions can use this test to
measure social media literacy of high school students and university undergraduates in Thailand,
in order to indicate whether there is a need to enhance knowledge about social media literacy.
In conclusion, social media literacy is an important skill set for children and young people
because social media literacy skills address citizenship in a democratic society. However, to
enhance such skills among young people, the state, private enterprise and civil society have to
work together in order to raise public awareness in the society as a whole and to prevent the
negative consequences of social media by building an “immunity” among young people who
consume an overwhelming amount of data and information every day. In this digital age, digital
media incessantly influences people’s perceptions, mindsets, and behavior. Social media literacy
indicators developed in this research will therefore, help measure social media literacy in
Thailand, especially in regard to political media, to raise awareness among young people in the
future.
