That message alone, that there is the possibility of

mobility, has been going to make ASEAN very dynamic. Much
lack inside every country. If a son of a farmer, down there at
the grass roots on the farm, could be given that message “you

could grow up and become a business man of the country as
long as you are good and trained, you could travel without

obstruction” that message alone, whether in Thailand,
Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar, it is going to make the entire
society more exciting, more dynamic and more definitely

hopeful. That is when we will get ownership, participation
and contribution promoted; 620 million now, not just leaders

pronouncing at the summit, or the ministers issuing a case, or
the officials writing the report. Then, we go home and forget
about what we have committed ourselves to.

When you get the people to benefit from this project
called ASEAN, the next 50 years is going to be very bright and

very exciting. I am now not celebrating 50 anniversaries of
ASEAN, I am going around to tell the people to look ahead for
the year 2067, when we are 100 years old, and think about its

profile and a kind of ASEAN community that we want to see 50
years from now. Our children, our future generation will look

back at 50. What have we done for them when we were 50?
How did we, or what did we contribute to this project called
ASEAN? Were we committed? Were you passionate? Were

we doing everything possible so that we could inherit ASEAN
