“one people, one identity, one community” is going to be
very elusive. So, an exercise like this, this is extremely critical,
extremely important that you are addressing in one area of
community-building but it is a one area, the one area that will
contribute to one ASEAN. When people move more easily, when
people are ready, when people will not be burdened to the
next country because they are professional, because of their
skills, they can sell or offer as a doctor, a nurse etc. They are
not going to be burdened to the country that they move into.
Facilitate them, help them to move more easily.
Then, and only then, that you will have networking of people
who will contribute more to the construction of the ASEAN
community. So, I hope you don’t look at yourself as working
on this small niche or a small area called mutual recognition
arrangements, only for eight, but this potential is for more.
Make sure at these eight are facilitated, implemented
and practiced. The inspiration that you would send to the
classroom, to the medical school, to the nursing school, wherever,
the look of your generation has a better and brighter future.
You can move around. You are not going to be stuck in your
own. If you want to, you can but the mere message of mobility,
of choice of the future, of the fact that you can choose to
move and move rather comfortably and you will be welcomed,
protected, given guidance and even supported through these
mutual recognition arrangements.
