Abstract

“The Study of Political Activities and Electoral Behaviors in the 2019 General Election

in Songkhla Province” on March 24, 2019, which is the first election under the Constitution of the
Kingdom of Thailand B.E. 2560 (2017) after the coup by the National Council for Peace and Order

(NCPO) led by General Prayut Chan-o-cha and after that became prime minister. The objectives
of this research are 4 : 1) studying the political activities and behaviors of political candidates in

Songkhla Province, 2) studying the political situation, political activities, changes in political behavior,
patterns of political behavior of people and political groups in relation to the election in Songkhla

Province, 3) studying the behavior of using various resources in relation to the election in Songkhla
Province, 4) studying the change of political power, party membership realignment, factors affected to

political decisions and analysis of the election results in Songkhla Province.

This research applied a qualitative research methodology in which the researcher accesses
data and collects data into 2 parts, namely document data collection and field data collection,

the details are : 1) Collecting data from documents such as newspapers, articles, theses, research
works, online data, social media data, etc., 2) Gathering field data. Researcher will collect the

data using non-structured interview from candidates and the working group. Media and political
observers, 3) Non-participation observation, such as the campaign of the candidates and campaign

assistant, campaign speech and voting.

This research used rational choice theory instead of party identification concept which
has described political activities and electoral behaviors in Songkhla since the election of
