Executive summary
This research on “International Organizations’ Role on Peace Process and Some
Perspectives on Southern Thailand’s Future” intends to assess the progress of peacebuilding
through the formal Peace Dialogue Process that began in 2013. The deadly conflict in the
Southernmost provinces has been going on for more than 15 years during which 20,451 violent
incidents occurred resulting in 7 ,0 6 8 deaths, 13 ,2 1 4 injured, 9,806 orphans, and the
expenditure of 302,926.9 million Baht from government budget.
The School for the culture for Peace (Escola de Cultura de Pau) reported that during
the past 30 years, out of 50 violent conflicts worldwide, 41 conflicts ended with peace
agreement while the remaining 9 were over by military victory. The same report indicated that
the assistance of third party, that has no direct stake in the conflict, is crucial to improve the
quality of peace talk (Rungrawee Chalermsripinyorat, 2015: [8]). To put it succinctly, the report
shows that peace talk is more conducive to end armed conflict than the use of force. Thus,

properties. However,
peacebuilding through Peace Dialogue Process has not been running smooth.
Considering that conflicts are a contemporary occurrence in today’s world, the research
proposes to investigate the international organizations’ role in the Peace Process with the
emphasis on the direction taken by the formal Peace Dialogue Process and to analyze the
viewpoints of state actors, insurgents, and other concerned persons. This is a qualitative
research: the data collection was mainly done through literature review and in- depth
