erits and Demerits of re ent lections
As is shown in the table on the previous page, six elections were held for
both Houses of the Diet during the period 2005~2013, once in less than one
and half years. It is good from the view point of democracy because people
have more opportunities to express their opinions. However, the time frame for
politicians to make decisions becomes short. While critical decisions unfavorable
to voters may be avoided as the election time comes close, favorable decisions
such as additional expenditure programs may be made before the election.
Voters need be wise to know that those favorable measures may turn out
unfavorable burden in the future.
