หลังจากที่ปฏิญญา UDHR ได้รับรองสิทธิที่จะไม่ถูกทรมานแล้ว ในเวลา
ต่อมาก็ได้มีพัฒนาการของการรับรองสิทธินี้ในตราสารระหว่างประเทศที่ได้จัดทำาขึ้น

ในภายหลังอีกด้วย โดยในปัจจุบัน มีตราสารระหว่างประเทศที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้องกับ
การทรมานหลายฉบับ ทั้งในรูปแบบอนุสัญญา ปฏิญญา หลักการชี้แนะ มาตรฐาน
ขั้นตำ่า ฯลฯ โดยผู้วิจัยรวบรวมตราสารบางส่วนเพื่อเป็นข้อมูล ดังนี้
