informal school initiated by a young lady by the name of Lian Gogali. And after the
conflict finished, the men are afraid and reluctant to talk to each other, even they’re
afraid to go to the market. It’s the woman who started the dialog. They started to go
to the market, reestablished the economy of the society. And eventually they started
to each other, of course, in the beginning they avoid to talk about conflict. But Lian
Gogali, who is the founder of this school, eventually shaped structure of curriculum
inviting those women to talk about the problem in their house life, like the gender rule
in family and what women can do in the society and so forth and so on. And
eventually, the discussion also lead to the codes of the conflict. From that discussion,
eventually their subject changed into more focus on the roles of women in peace,
conflict reconciliation, women in politics, the role of women in the society, and how
women can play significant role as agent in the society. And from time to time, this
school attracted new students. Now it becomes very effective movement in Eastern
Indonesia.
The other group is called Srikandi Lintas Iman. In English, it would be Interfaith
Woman Movement. Maybe some of you know Srikandi. Srikandi is the name of a
hero in Hindu tradition. So, Srikandi Lintas Iman was funded only recently in 2015.
It’s also related to the concern of the fact that women are vulnerable in conflicts and
hurt. They are under-represented when the conflict happened and the conflict dialog,
conflict resolution is talked. So this group try to speak up in public and organizing
from community surface to training, to research, to political participation. It works very
effectively over the past three years. They’ve been doing training workshops including
publications, public awareness, empowerment, and networking. They have this very
interesting slogan called CATCH: it means Care, Act, Talk, And, Change. Based on the
idea of women’s rights and their active roles through dialog in the creation of peace
in the society. I think this is like the trigger for the dialog. Hopefully, there is something
that we can learn from what has been done in Indonesia. Thank you very much.
