We don’t have that kind of long range thinking. Political parties should be doing that.
But our political parties are not very organized. In fact, they are not really political
parties. I don’t know of any political party that even has a headquarters or owns a
building that is its headquarters. So, our political parties are only vehicles for getting
candidates to be known in elections. But they are not really programatic,
organizations, incapable of holding to ideologies and visions.
So basically, there are many threats to Philippines democracy. And because we
are still democratic, we still have social space. For instance, I can post anything
against President Duterte, which I do a lot of times. I don’t get arrested. And a lot
of Filipinos are still be able to do this. We have freedoms. So, while there is a threat
of authoritarianism, that has remained freedom, which might tell us that we might
have a kind of resilience that, despite the threats, might enable us to rebound
because his term ends in 2022. There is no re-election and if the military does not
participate in his constitutional authoritarianism project, then we might just survive it.
We have an excellent vice president, very industrious oriented. I think we might be
able to win it and remain in democracy.
So, hopefully some of these insights can be followed through in this discussion
and that it might benefit you and your case. Thank you. ª£¸²£ª±¡¡²¥¸h¡¢h¢µÈ
