Result of the Research
According to the conducted research. the new constitution. which is the first con-
stitution in the Thai history to involve people's participation in the drafting process. is a

constitution incorporating the international concept of a good governance. The constitution
provides a good basis to further elaborate the objectives. structure and process of governing
society as well as the essence of governance.
Since the new constitution serves as an important foundation for the concept of
good governance and has been accepted by the people. it can therefore be implied that the
people acknowledge and accept the concept of good governance and with that it could be
applied to the Thai society at the earliest.
Moreover. the research also illustrates that the high level of democratization and
good governance contribute to social and economic development in Thailand as in other

countries in the world. Democracy and good governance would contribute to a sustainable
and equitable development since the resources are well allocated and distributed.
However. the new constitution and the roots of good governance are faced with
many limitations. This is because the patronage system is deeply rooted in Thai society since
ancient times. In reality. Thai society is still characterized by a "patronage democracy" and
"privilege capitalism" for the public. private and voters are embedded in the system. There-
fore. in order for democracy and good governance to flourish in Thai society. efforts have to

be made in many areas.
