                          Permanent residents in Singapore number to about

                 527,000 as of June 2015 data from government. About 8,868
                 only are non-citizen spouses married to Singaporeans. Foreign

                 permanent residents are mostly within the 25-49 years old
                 bracket. But from 2007 to 2014, the Singaporean government’s
                 granting of citizenship and permanent residency to foreigners

                 had gone down. This is owed to the “tightening of the
                 immigration framework [of Singapore] in 2009” (National

                 Population and Talent Division, Department of Statistics, Ministry
                 of Home Affairs and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority,
                 2015) (see Figure 2). Only P, Q and S passers are eligible to

                 apply for permanent residency.
