20 การศึกษาความเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองและพฤติกรรมการเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎร 2562 จังหวัดเชียงใหม่
From the analysis of pre-election data, during the election and after the election in
Chiang Mai, it was found that the election March 24, 2019 raised political issues regarding the
constitution, election system, political parties, political behavior of people, and online media,
which require ongoing research to understand the political phenomenon, political behavior of
people in the area, and the design of the electoral system which is more consistent with the
democratic intent that truly effects the rights and needs of the people. This can only happen
when people become crucial players. Elections are not limited to people’s casting the votes
only, but they also include understanding about the rules, roles, and responsibilities. Elections
involve people acting as citizens monitoring political institutions, government, political parties,
and government organizations to ensure that they perform their duties and roles.
As the majority of people are realizing the importance of the role of political parties,
this study proposes certain suggestions. Political party organizations should be strengthened
as they are closely tied with political development. The role of political parties should be
promoted through party branches and the political activities should be collaborated in the
form of interactive network between groups and organizations in the area, especially areas
with great diversity in culture and nature of voters such as Chiang Mai. People should be
provided with knowledge about the constitution and election laws so that the elections can
ensure the quality of votes. The potential of the Election Commission should be enhanced
utilizing technology to collect demographic data and details of eligible voters, thus increase
the efficiency, accuracy and reliability of the data for the Election Commission’s personnel.
With that, the elections should be managed efficiently and maintain the democratic election.
For the development of political parties, they should be encouraged to design succinct and
concrete policy in response to the needs of the people. The political parties and candidates,
as a result, would be elected on the basis of people’s needs and would be able to perform
the role of truly democratic representatives of the people.
