Abstract
This research was a qualitative research that focused on the lesson learnt of best
practices under the objective of 1. to study the context of Nhong Sarai Sub-district, Phanom
Thuan District, Kanchanaburi Province, in term of the community’s history, community’s
characteristics, occupation, natural resources’ accessing, group of community organization,
kinship or relationship system and inequality’s condition that affects the livelihood, 2. to study
the process of solving the inequality of Nhong Sarai Sub-district, Phanom Thuan District,
Kanchanaburi Province, 3. to analyze, synthesize and present model of the community’s self-
management in order to solve the inequality. The data collection of this research used the
method of data collecting from key stakeholders through non-structural interview tool to and
in-depth interviews. The data was analyzed through data descriptive classification and content
analysis.
The research results indicated the key points of Ban Nhong Sarai community were as
follows; 1. Leaders: having strong leaders with vision and determination to develop the
community and the quality of life of the population. 2. Human resources: having a potential
human resources, since people of Nhong Sarai had willing and gave their cooperation for
potential developing. 3. Learning: due to the separation to set up a new district, making Nhong
Sarai people had to learn in order to continuously develop their self-potential and their
community. 4. Livelihoods: since the living with agriculture which depending on nature and
focusing on consumption rather than for selling including the generosity to each other,
indicating mutual interaction in community. 5. Blood relationship: due to Nhong Sarai had a
few large families therefore the connection or blood’s connection was an important factor in
binding or holding the community to be successful in working together. 6. Management
system: there was a clear structure of governing system or work system including there was
work allocation which resulting in effective coordination and development. 7. Inequality: the
problem of resources accessing was also an important factor for cultivation and community
development therefore it was causing the separation to set up the new sub-district. As for the
work process of the community, the steps were as follows; Step 1: Group forming to increase
bargaining power, Step 2: building community participation at all levels, Step 3: systematic
work, and step 4: Follow-up and monitoring. The synthesis of self-management model to solve
the community’s inequality through 5G Model (Nhong Sarai Model) consisted of 5
components: component 1-G 1 = Good Leader, component 2- G 2 = Good Team, component
3- G 3 = Good Planning (Clear goals), component 4- G 4 = Good and effective Participation,
component 5- G 5 = Good Quality of life.
